DESCRIPTION:
Atkins, Whiting & Co., Bristol, Conn., 30-day fancy cast iron frame [Ives patent] wagon spring powered skeleton timepiece with pierced silvered dial under glass dome, c1855
CONDITION:
this is the same wagon spring movement used in such Atkins models as the XX octagon drop regulator and :London model shelf clock. Many collectors have found the movement so beautiful, that they have chosen to display them under glass, rather than hide in a wooden case. Atkins may have offered such display in the 1850s, but this is unproven. Additional information can be found in HOROLOGY AMERICANA, by Dworetsky & Dickstein [1972], with a photograph of a similar clock [page 166], Ht of clock 13 1/2", with dome and base 16"
